The Responsible AI Checklist for Small Businesses
A plain-English self-review — not legal advice. If any of this raises questions specific to your business, talk to a qualified attorney.
Responsible AI checklist
1. Does Your Business Disclose When AI Is Involved?
- Customers know when they're talking to a chatbot, not a person
- AI-generated content (emails, posts, replies) doesn't pretend to be handwritten when it matters
- Voice AI identifies itself as automated at the start of a call
2. Is a Human Still in the Loop?
- Someone reviews AI output before it reaches a customer — pricing, contracts, sensitive replies
- There's a clear path for a customer to reach a real person if they ask
- Mistakes get caught before they go out, not after
3. Is Customer Data Being Handled Responsibly?
- You know what customer information your AI tools store, and where
- Sensitive data (health, financial, personal) isn't pasted into general AI tools without checking the rules
- Your privacy policy actually reflects the AI tools you use today
4. Is Outbound Contact (Calls, Texts, Email) Permission-Based?
- AI voice agents or automated follow-up only reach people who opted in
- Consent is documented somewhere you could point to if asked
- You'd pause a campaign if you weren't sure permission was in place
5. Are You Set Up to Keep This Current?
- Someone owns “AI oversight” as a real responsibility, not an afterthought
- You revisit this checklist as you add new tools
- You know when to loop in a professional — legal, technical, or otherwise
Why this matters
Being responsible with AI isn’t about slowing down — it’s about building something that holds up as you grow. G.R.O.W. AI helps businesses put these guardrails in place while implementing AI, not as an afterthought.
Want Help Putting These Guardrails in Place?
We build oversight, disclosure, and consent into AI implementation from the start — not after something goes wrong.
